A shallow-profile stormwater pit designed to make drainage installation faster, simpler and more effective.
When it comes to residential stormwater drainage, the right pit can make a big difference to how quickly and easily a system comes together.
Traditional stormwater pits have their place, but when you need a simple, shallow and easy-to-install drainage pit, there’s another option worth considering: the RELN Uni-Pit Vortex™.
Designed with a shallow profile and a unique vortex system, the Uni-Pit Vortex™ helps direct surfacewater into the stormwater system while collecting debris and reducing water pooling. Its simple installation design means less time spent working out pit depths and pipe connections.
What is a Uni-Pit Vortex™?
Unlike traditional pits, which commonly use side outlets, the Uni-Pit Vortex™ features a bottom outlet connection. Series 200 and 300 models connect directly to 90 mm or 100 mm PVC pipe, while the Series 450 is designed for larger applications.
The shallow design makes the Uni-Pit Vortex™ particularly useful where excavation depth needs to be minimised, such as around paved areas, pathways, gardens and driveways.
Why does the vortex design matter?
The pit’s vortex design helps guide water through the pit while collecting debris before it reaches the stormwater pipe. This can help reduce the risk of pipe blockages and encourages water to move efficiently through the drainage system.
The design also helps reduce water pooling inside the pit – important because standing water can provide an environment where mosquitoes may breed.
Which Uni-Pit Vortex™ is right for your project?
The Uni-Pit Vortex™ range is available in Series 200, Series 300 and Series 450, giving you options for different drainage applications.
| Uni-Pit Vortex™ | Recommended application |
| Series 200 | Ideal for paved areas around the home and pool, domestic pathways, garden beds and below taps. |
| Series 300 | Suitable for domestic and commercial paved areas and driveways. |
| Series 450 | Designed for driveways, car parks and slow-traffic commercial areas |
The range also offers grate options with AS3996 Class A, B or C load ratings, depending on the application and selected grate. (Always select the appropriate pit and grate for the intended location and expected traffic loads).
Uni-Pit Vortex™ vs Traditional Pits: What’s the difference?
So, why choose a Uni-Pit over a traditional stormwater pit?
The biggest difference is how the pit connects to the drainage system.
Traditional pits typically have a fixed depth and side outlets for pipe connections. This means installation can involve carefully determining where the side outlet needs to be positioned to achieve the correct pipe fall and finished surface level.
The Uni-Pit Vortex™ takes a simpler approach.
With its bottom outlet, the pit can be positioned at the required surface level, while vertical PVC pipe can be cut to the necessary height. This can make achieving the correct finished level much simpler during installation.
In simple terms:
| Traditional pit: | Side outlet → calculate pipe exit height → position pit → adjust installation. |
| Uni-Pit Vortex™: | Bottom outlet → position pit → cut vertical pipe to height → connect. |
A good drainage system isn’t just about moving water — it’s about making the entire installation work efficiently.
With its shallow profile, bottom outlet, no-riser installation, vortex flow design and built-in debris collector, the RELN Uni-Pit Vortex™ offers a practical alternative to traditional stormwater pits.
Whether you’re working on a residential garden drainage project, paved area, driveway or commercial application, the Uni-Pit Vortex™ is designed to make installation fast, simple and effective.
Less digging. Less fuss. Smarter drainage.
