PROBLEM: Driveway – Excess water entering garage or pooling near garage door

Water entering your Garage? Pooling water in this area means that there is inadequate drainage or no drainage to remove the excess pooling water. Water pooling at the end of a driveway that connects with your home can be a serious problem. In the case of heavy rain, the water has the opportunity in flowing under your garage door into the interior of the garage. Too much water left to settle against the walls of your property can cause serious issues, potentially leaving you with a damp property interior.

Where there is a risk of damp, the risk of mould is almost always present. Mouldy walls can damage your health, so fixing any drainage issues with a driveway should be a top priority.

SOLUTION: RELN Storm Mate™, Storm Drain™, Storm Drain Pro, Storm Master®

A RELN channel drain that covers the entire of the width of the driveway where the drainage problems are occurring, will help transport the pooling water away from your home and protect it against damp and surface water entering the garage.

Important!
Never connect any drainage into downpipes/stormwater that is a charged system as this will flow back into the drainage installed and create flooding. A charged system is typically used where above ground water tanks have been installed.

PROBLEM: Damp Lawn - Lawn not growing due to pooling water

Waterlogging is caused by poor drainage and poor drainage will certainly have a detrimental effect on how your lawn looks and performs during Winter.

Winter is the time of year when you are most likely to experience these drainage issues. This can occur for many reasons but is more common where the soil is heavy clay or where there are low points that naturally collect water.

SOLUTION: RELN Unipit Vortex™, Traditional Pit and Ag Pipe

A RELN Unipit Vortex™ or a Traditional Pit installed where the low spot is will assist in moving the pooling water. Another option if the area of dampness is more extensive is to install Ag Pipe. This will assist with the transfer of pooling water and help in keeping the narrow side of your home dry and keep your lawn in a much healthier state.

PROBLEM: Paved Area – Pooling water due to poor levels

Have you noticed water pooling in your courtyard or patio area, causing areas of mould to start appearing? Common causes for this are when pavers or tiles have been laid with an incorrect fall.

SOLUTION: RELN Unipit Vortex™, Traditional Pits, Storm Drain™ or Storm Mate™

A good solution is to install a RELN Unipit Vortex™ in the area where the water is pooling. This allows for the surface to drain without removing the entire paved area and redoing the surface.

PROBLEM: Water seeping through retaining walls and appearing on paved area

You have water coming through your retaining wall. This is due to insufficient drainage with no Ag Pipe installed behind the wall. With rainfall, the water builds behind the wall and eventually finds its way through, penetrating the face of the wall.

SOLUTION: RELN Slotted Ag Pipe fitted with a filter sock

The fill behind the wall needs to be removed to the base of the wall, forming a trench. Install 100 mm of crushed blue metal, lay 100 mm Ag Pipe with filter sock and cover with blue metal. Make sure that the installed Ag Pipe has fallen either to a lawn area or preferably into your stormwater system.

TIP: Install a waterproofing membrane against the wall prior to installing the Ag Pipe as an added barrier

NOTE: We recommend using Drain Matting in conjunction with Ag-Pipe to prevent sediment from entering the pipe.

PROBLEM: Water from adjoining property flowing into your yard

Surfacewater from a higher adjoining property flowing into your yard and creating a damp area along the fence line or within your yard.

SOLUTION: RELN Slotted Ag Pipe fitted with a filter sock and RELN Traditional Pit or Unipit Vortex™

RELN Ag Pipe with filter sock with either a Unipit Vortex™ or a Traditional Pit installed where the surfacewater settles will assist in moving the pooling water into your stormwater system, giving you a dryer area and maintain lawn health.

PROBLEM: Water pooling under deck areas

Finding the area under your deck is remaining damp? This is quite common when rain passes through the deck area has nowhere to go. Sunlight is restricted and the dampness cannot dry out. The real concern with this situation is that the timber structure can begin to deteriorate if not treated as soon as possible.

SOLUTION: RELN Slotted Ag Pipe fitted with a filter sock and RELN Traditional Pit or Unipit Vortex™

Installing a series of Ag lines laid in blue metal connected to a central pit at the lowest point connected to your stormwater system will allow this area to remain dry and protect the foundations and timber structure above.

PROBLEM: Water pooling into corner of house along wall

Have you noticed water pooling in the corner of your courtyard against the external wall of your house? Common causes for this is when pavers or tiles have been laid with incorrect fall, falling back towards the house. This is where you don’t want water to pool, as it may create damp on the inside rooms and damage the outer surface of your home.

SOLUTION: RELN Storm Drain™ or Storm Mate™

A good solution is to install a RELN Storm Drain™ along the wall in the affected area, which will capture surfacewater before it is able to pool alongside the external wall. The benefit of the Storm Drain™ system are the components available for you to tailor the drainage line to contour the exterior wall. Your drainage can be finished off with a wide selection of grates to suit any outdoor finish.

PROBLEM: Water pooling along garden

Summer is a great time to enjoy your pool, but if you have a garden closeby, the excess water will create an issue within the garden bed.

SOLUTION: RELN Storm Drain™ or Storm Mate™

The perfect solution is to install Storm Drain™ along the garden edge to capture the excess pool water before it enters the garden bed. The Storm Drain™ system has a range of components available for you to tailor the drainage line to suite the area and shape required. Your drainage can be finished off with a wide selection of grates to suit the pool surface area.

TIP: If your pool is salt water consider using stainless steel grates.

PROBLEM: Water pooling in garden

Your plants and not growing well and garden beds are always damp?

SOLUTION: RELN Unipit Vortex™ with Atrium grate and RELN Ag Pipe

There are 2 good solutions for your raised garden beds.

Option 1:
To install a direct line into your stormwater from your garden connected to a RELN Unipit Vortex™ with an Atrium grate. The benefit to the atrium grate is that it stops mulch or bark chip from blocking the drainage installed. This allows water to freely drain from the garden bed keeping it dry and your plants healthy.

Option 2:
Remove the fill behind the wall forming a trench. Install a layer of geofabric lay 100mm slotted Ag Pipe with filter sock and cover then cover with blue metal. Once covered, wrap the Ag Pipe  and blue metal with the geofabric then backfill with the removed garden mix. Ensure that the installed Ag Pipe has fall either to a lawn area or preferably into your stormwater system.

PROBLEM: Water pooling on pathway under gate

Pathway leading to your front gate has a build-up of surfacewater.

SOLUTION: RELN Storm Drain™ or Storm Mate™

A great solution here is to install RELN Storm Mate across the path. Perfect for straight line solutions, this shallow profile will allow for your excess surface water to be diverted to your connected stormwater. Grate options also available to achieve the perfect look.
